Over 75% of the world's 781M illiterate adults are found in South Asia, West Asia and sub-Saharan Africa and women represent almost two-thirds of all illiterate adults globally. Not only is education unaffordable, it is lacking in the most basic infrastructure. Geo’s latest report on Sindh says that 52% of public and 40% of private primary schools in rural Sindh do not have functional washrooms. 33% of private primary schools and 41% of government primary schools lack boundary walls, These figures are quite possibly a reflection for the other provinces too.

Our aim is to identify these schools and help improve sanitation facilities, revamp and renovate existing facilities and provide clean potable water. By providing a better environment for learning the Javat Foundation hopes to increase school attendance and hence eventually have an impact on literacy in Pakistan.
